Teen Safety Stats

TEEN SAFETY STATS

Did you know that:
·  Youth ages 12 to 24 have the highest rate of victimization.
·  During a one-year period, 47% of youth ages 14 to 17 had experienced a physical assault, 16% had been  sexually victimized, 17% had experienced abuse or neglect, and 28% had experienced a property victimization (including robbery).
·  About 32% of high school students are in a physical fight one or more times during any 12 months period, and about 4% are in a fight in which they are injured and have to be treated by a nurse or doctor.
·  Girls ages 16-19 are 4 times more likely than the general population to be victims of rape, attempted rape, or sexual assault.

When was the last time you had a conversation with your parent or guardian about personal safety?

Jaycee Dugard was abducted at the age of 11 when she was walking home from school after she approached an automobile. She was asked for directions. A stun gun was used on her when she came up to the car. She was abused, raped and kept hostage for over 18 years.

READ REAL stories from women who were victims of various acts of violence. They shared their stories with the NOWSA, please SHARE them with your teens.
